We had a great time at the baseball game on Friday, June 17, with a number of Oberlin Alumni, Friends and Family joining us. The Indians won against Pittsburgh with an exciting double-play at the end. The fireworks after the game were spectacular (and yes, I heard more than a few Obies singing along to the 80s music!).
Already looking forward to next year - hope you can join us!

Alumni Artist Featured at FAVA
Rebecca Cross '84, fiber artist, along with painter Annette Poitau, is featured in the show "Liaisons: a Conversation in Textiles and Painting" at FAVA Gallery in Oberlin. The exhibit runs through July 10, 2011.

Founded in 1979, The Firelands Association for the Visual Arts is an independent, non-profit art organization in Oberlin, Ohio dedicated to enhancing public appreciation of and participation in the visual arts through exhibitions and related educational and community activities. FAVA presents changing exhibits of high quality artwork in a variety of styles and media.
Support for FAVA comes from memberships, contributions by individuals and business friends of the arts, commissions on sales, and fundraising events. FAVA also receives support from the Nord Family Foundation, the Community Foundation of Lorain County, the Stocker Foundation, the Nordson Corporation Foundation, the Bill Long Foundation, the Oberlin Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Ohio Arts Council. In 1994, the board of FAVA established an endowment fund for the organization at the Community Foundation of Lorain County to provide future support for exhibitions and education outreach programs.
Membership is open to artists and friends of the arts. Members receive discounts on purchases, class tuition, and show registration fees, as well as information about upcoming exhibitions, class offerings and invitations to members-only special events.

Oberlin Faculty in Cleveland Art Show
The work of Nanette Yannuzzi-Macias and Arzu Ozkal, respectively Associate Professor of Studio Art and Visiting Assistant Professor of Studio Art, is being shown as part of Farmed: The New Agronomists, a show at SPACES. The show runs through July 10, 2011.
This exhibition will address themes of the production of food and goods through farming, either on a small, personal scale or the scale of large agri-business. The cotton in our t-shirts, the salad on our plates, the corn-syrup in our… everything were originally produced in gardens and on farms. Yet the rustic, romantic view of the lone farmer is a far cry from the reality behind the economic, genetic, environmental and political concerns that orbit usable-plant growth in our country. Artists and farmers will address these issues that affect us each greatly, but often invisibly.
The show also includes work by Michael Mercil, Amy Youngs, and Sara Rabinowitz.

Looking ahead
Because of Commencement/Reunion Weekend at the end of the month, and Cleveland’s proximity to Oberlin, there is no official event in May for the club. (If you haven’t yet done so, register today for CRW by visiting http://new.oberlin.edu/office/alumni) I do have some information on upcoming events for over the summer, however.

Join fellow Cleveland area Obies for the Second Annual Alumni Day at Progressive Field on June 17, 2011 at 7:05 as the Cleveland Indians battle the Pittsburgh Pirates! It’s Dollar Dog Night, so enjoy great food, fun and baseball with Oberlin Alumni, Friends and Family and stick around for fireworks after the game!

Our annual summer picnic for alumni, current students and entering first-years is just around the corner. I’m looking for suggestions on good places to hold the picnic, preferably within Cleveland.
