An Evening with Professor T.S. McMillin

Join Professor of English T.S. McMillin at Visible Voice Books in
Tremont on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 7:00pm for a book reading and signing. Professor McMillin will be reading from his latest book, The Meaning of Rivers: Flow & Reflection in American Literature (American Land & Life Series, University of Iowa Press, 2011).

In addition to The Meaning of Rivers, T. S. McMillin is the author of
Our Preposterous Use of Literature: Emerson & the Nature of Reading (University of Illinois Press, 2000). He has written numerous articles on the American Transcendentalists, including "Beauty Meets Beast: Emerson's English Traits," an essay in the collection Emerson for the Twenty-First Century: Global Perspectives on an American Icon (University of Delaware Press, 2010), and is currently working on a new book of river-related essays.

Along with teaching courses in American literature and environmental studies, he has survived a stint as department chair, performed with the Josh Ritter Band (once), and officiated weddings (twice). He was named the Only Flower of Meditation in the Wilderness by a fortune cookie from a local restaurant.

Visible Voices was voted "coolest bookstore to hang out in" by Scene Magazine in 2010, and has a great atmosphere with a wine bar. Some snacks will be provided, but drink costs are on your own. After the reading, mingle with T.S. McMillin as you continue to enjoy browsing books, wine and conversation with other Obies.
