The Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage is currently showcasing an exhibit entitled “Women & Spirit: Catholic Sisters in America.” Rare artifacts, poignant photographs, compelling video and first-person accounts tell remarkable stories of pioneering women who established schools, hospitals and other enduring institutions and continue to work for peace and social justice.
WOMEN & SPIRIT: Catholic Sisters in America, is traveling around America, most recently at the The Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and after The Maltz Museum it will travel to the Ellis Island Museum in New York City.
This acclaimed national exhibition is enhanced in Cleveland by several locally-produced elements: Women With Spirit, a short film with quotes from women in history in the areas of faith, determination and service, with space for guests to add their thoughts on a woman they admire.
WOMEN & SPIRIT is a project of The Leadership Conference of Women Religious, an association of the leaders of congregations of Catholic women religious in the United States. The Conference has more than 1,500 members, representing about 95% of America’s 68,000 women religious.
Accompanying Women & Spirit, the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage will present a series of lectures, films and conversations about equality, faith and American history.
All events are at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage and free with museum admission unless otherwise indicated. Reservations are suggested. For more information or to purchase tickets call 216.593.0575 or email info@mmjh.org.
The exhibit runs through August 28, 2010. For more information, please visit http://www.maltzmuseum.org/
