Magpie Pizza and OSTF
Thanks to all of you who joined us for dinner at Magpie Pizza and then Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun with the Oberlin Summer Theater Festival. Dinner was great, with fun conversations, and the play was excellently acted and produced! Hope you can join us next year!

An Evening at the Oberlin Summer Theater Festival
The Oberlin Club of Cleveland invites you to dinner at Black River Cafe and a production of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing with the Oberlin Summer Theater Festival on Thursday, July 22nd.
There will be a prix-fixe menu of $24 (includes gratuity) and a cash bar (limited to the first 50 people only). Tickets to Much Ado About Nothing are FREE and will be passed out during dinner. Dinner costs are payable to the Alumni Association when you register.

The Oberlin Summer Theater Festival's 2010 production of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing playfully exposes the comic conflict inherent in all romance. At the core of the play is the famous battle between the sexes wittily waged by Benedick and Beatrice, two confirmed bachelors. The play also features one of Shakespeare's funniest clown characters, Dogberry, the bungling malaprop-spouting constable who accidentally saves the day.
The play is set in Sicily at Leonato's elegant estate. The action begins when officers return victorious from war. A young officer, Claudio, confides to the Prince, Don Pedro, that he has fallen in love with their host's daughter, Hero. The Prince helps to woo Hero for Claudio. To pass the time before the wedding day, the men concoct a humorous plot to trick Benedick and Beatrice into falling in love with each other. Bent on foiling their romance, the Prince's brother, Don John, concocts a sinister plot of his own: he spreads slander that Hero has been unfaithful. Chaos erupts at the wedding ceremony and Benedick challenges Claudio to a duel. But just when everything seems lost, Dogberry's watchmen stumble in to save the day.
Directed by OSTF's Producing Artistic Director Paul Moser, Oberlin's summer production foregrounds the courtly elegance and humor of the piece. Garden settings, 1930s costumes, and live 1930s music conjure a summery, festival feel. OSTF is once again joining forces with costume designers from Kent State University in a collaboration that strives to realize the merriment and elegance of Shakespeare's comedy.
Returning to the festival is Equity actor Matthew Wright (Leonato) who appeared as Prospero in The Tempest last summer. Joining him will be David Bugher (Benedick) who played The Gentleman Caller in OSTF's production of The Glass Menagerie. Seen last year as Ariel in The Tempest, Oberlin alumna and visual artist Alexis MacNab (Hero) returns for her second season. Also returning is Oberlin alum and resident Aaron Mucciolo (Dogberry), Stephano and Alonso in OSTF's 2009 production of The Tempest. Clare McNulty (Beatrice) is a 2007 Oberlin graduate who has performed in several companies in NYC including the award-winning, Oberlin-founded Sinking Ship Productions.

Dinner at Black River Café
For those of you that were able to make it to the dinner at Black River Café on January 28 – it was delightful to see all of you and meet so many new people! I hope you all enjoyed yourselves, and enjoyed meeting with the current Oberlin Students participating in the Winter Term Entrepreneurial Scholars Project.
Perhaps not the most fabulous photo ever, but it shows how full the event was!
I hope to see all of you again in the near future. For those of you that weren’t able to make it, we hope to make the dinner at Black River Café at least an annual event, and hope to see you there in the future. Many thanks to Joe Waltzer ’98, owner of Black River Café, for such a lovely evening.

The Entrepreneurship Scholars is an intensive winter term program designed to provide exceptionally creative and motivated Oberlin students with a dynamic environment in which to explore and develop their ideas. Scholars meet with entrepreneurial leaders in San Francisco, Cleveland, and Oberlin throughout the month of January. They spend a significant portion of the month working on their individual venture development goals.
Parking: There is free street parking available

St. Petersburg String Quartet in Medina

The St. Petersburg String Quartet, one of the world’s great string ensembles, will play in Medina on November 7th, 2009 as part of Main Street Medina's 2009-2010 World Tour of Music Concert Series.
Acclaimed throughout the music world, this quartet has blazed a trail through international chamber music competitions, winning First Prize at the All-Soviet Union String Quartet Competition, the Silver Medal and a Special Prize at the Tokyo International Competition of Chamber Ensembles, First Prize and both Special Prizes at the Vittorio Gui International Competition for Chamber Ensembles in Florence, Italy, and First Prize and the "Grand Prix Musica Viva" at the International Competition for Chamber Ensembles in Melbourne, Australia. Audiences around the globe give the St. Petersburg Quartet standing ovations. The quartet is based in Oberlin, OH. More about the quartet here on their website.
Adult tickets are $25, and Main Street Medina members, seniors, students, and groups of 10+ are $20. Tickets are available by calling 330-952-0910, at either Medina Buehler’s locations, or by downloading the order form at www.mainstreetmedina.com. All performances begin at 8pm, and are held at Broadway Street Hall, 144 N. Broadway, Medina, OH 44256. Doors open at 7:30, and seating is general admission.
Attend an all-Russian dinner at The Main Street Café in Medina for $24.95, then hear the concert one block away for $20 and then join the quartet at a post-concert party (free appetizers with cash bar).
