Pianist Peter Takács presents free CD release concert on September 22

From the Conservatory Communications Office:

The Oberlin Conservatory of Music cordially invites you to attend a free recital by Peter Takács in celebration of his newly released, 11-disc collection of Beethoven's complete Piano Sonatas. Featuring selections from his boldest recording yet, the concert will be held on Thursday, September 22, at 8 p.m. in Warner Hall, located at 77 West College Street in Oberlin.

Almost 13 years in the making, the elegantly styled set was recorded on the Cambria label and features a bonus 11th CD that contains an array of youthful works and fragments of some of Beethoven's earlier attempts at sonata form. The set also includes a fold-out timeline that, in addition to chronicling Beethoven's life, provides sociocultural context for each of the sonatas, such as period literature and significant moments in science and history.

Following the concert, Mr. Takács will be available to sign copies of the recording, which will be on sale for $80.

Program:
Sonata in G Minor, Op. 49, No. 1
Sonata in D Major, Op. 10, No. 3
Andante favori, WoO 57
Sonata in C Major, Op. 53 "Waldstein"

(In an aside, I remember well that he was working on this while I was a student! Congratulations, Peter, on finishing this impressive project!)
