Oberlin Cares Day at George Jones Farm

Thanks so much to all of the Oberlin Alumni, Family and Friends that came out for our first annual Oberlin Cares Day! We had a great group, and made a lot of progress on Spring planting at the George Jones Farm. I think Marco, the head grower, was quite taken aback by how many
volunteers he had at his disposal.

Les Délices on May 22 & 23

Les Délices will present two concerts in the Cleveland area on Saturday, May 22 & Sunday, May 23, 2010. In addition to Debra Nagy (BM '00 & MM '02), Kathryn Montoya '99, Emily Walhout '83 and Lisa Crawford (Emeritus Professor of Harpsichord) will be performing.

I wrote about Les Délices here and here.

Les Délices presents "Petits Violons du Roy" as the third concert in their inaugural season, an intimate program of musical tributes and caricatures. The group will perform at Tregoning & Company, the highly esteemed gallery inside the W. 78th St. Studio complex (1300 W. 78th St., Cleveland) on Saturday, May 22 at 8pm, and repeats its program inside Herr Chapel at Plymouth Church in Shaker Heights (2860 Coventy Rd., Shaker Heights) on Sunday, May 23 at 4pm.

Inspired by Louis XIV's personal chamber ensemble "Les Petits Violons du Roy," the concert features pairs of violins, oboes and recorders. Concertgoers will relish the warm, subdued tones of mixed strings and winds in this program of solos, trios and dance suites that pair soulful expressiveness with rhythmic verve.

Featured works on the program include rarely heard suites by Pierre Gautier de Marseille and Michel de la Barre (one of Louis XIV's flutists), and a trio for dueling violins in the Italian style by Jean-Féry Rebel (violinist to the King).

Tickets for both concerts are available here at here. $20 General Admission, $18 Seniors & Members of Plymouth Church, $5 Student Rush available at the door.
