Ultimate Brownies, the only brownie shop in the Cleveland area, is run by Diana Dumitru, '90! What a fantastic shop to have in our area! Do check out her website and shop - the brownies look absolutely delicious. I know a trip to her shop is in store (oops, no pun intended) for my family!
Ultimate Brownies are made with organic eggs, hormone-free butter, unbleached flour, Swiss chocolate and no preservatives - good for the environment and good for you! They are available in a dozen flavors.
Ultimate Brownies has been nominated on the Fox8 Hotlist as Best of Cleveland. If Obies are interested in voting, click here. Ultimate Brownies held the lead for a while, but is now in 2nd place, so they need Obies to win! The contest ends November 13, 2009.
The store is located at 19636 Center Ridge Road, Rocky River, OH 44116.
Good luck, Diana!

EnviroAlums in Oberlin
My apologies to EnviroAlums - the blurb about their upcoming reunion on October 9-11, 2009 was inadvertently left out of the e-newsletter. Due to when the e-newsletter went out, one paragraph needed to be taken out (as the event had already passed) but two were taken out. Again, my apologies, and here is the information about the reunion.
Oberlin's first Environmental Reunion sponsored by the Alumni Office, EnviroAlums, and ENVS Department will be held on October 9-11, 2009. Hosted by the Environmental Studies Program and EnviroAlums, the Oberlin Environmental Reunion is a weekend of reflection and projection.
The nation's foremost environmental educator, Oberlin's David Orr, gives the keynote address on Friday, October 9 and concludes the weekend on Sunday with his symposium "From Here to There: Visions of a Prosperous, Post-Carbon Region." The rest of the weekend is also not to be missed.
Please visit the Alumni Office for a statement about the reunion with links to reunion information.

Plans are being finalized for the fall potluck. Maureen Mullin, '80, has been kind enough to open her house to us again. The potluck will be on Saturday, November 14th, beginning at 7pm. The address is 3007 Berkshire Rd, Cleveland Heights.
As usual, spouses, partners, family and friends are all welcome. Please join us for a casual evening of good food and good conversation.
Based on the first letter of your last name, please bring:
A-G bring dessert/wine/beer
H-O bring main dish
P-Z bring side dish/appetizer
Paper products and some beverages will be provided.
Once the invitation goes out from the Alumni Office, please do RSVP, so we know how many to expect.

Maltz Museum and Oberlin Cares Day
Happy October, Alumni! I always look forward to the changes that fall means, and this year is not disappointing! The trees are starting to change color, apple cider is available at the stores and the sunlight has taken on a golden fall cast.
As you have probably read, our October event will be on Sunday, October 11, for a special Oberlin alumni day at The Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage for a tour with Mark Davidson, '84, Manager of School and Family Programs. I hope you can all come out and join us as he leads a tour of the museum and their October exhibit, "Cleveland: A Celebration of Cultures." After the tour, we will meet at The Fairmount Martini and Wine Bar, in Cleveland Heights, for drinks, food and conversation.
The tour will begin at 3pm and last approximately an hour, however alumni are welsome to arrive as early as they wish to take advantage of the other events going on that day.
The Maltz Museum is located at 2929 Richmond Road, Beachwood, OH. Parking is available at the museum. The Fairmount is located at 2448 Fairmount Blvd, Cleveland Heights, OH. They are about 7 miles apart. On-street parking only.
In order to give alumni time to browse on their own at the museum, we will meet at The Fairmount beginning at 5:15 and go until 7:30.
Please do RSVP if you are interest in attending one or both of the events, by sending me an e-mail: kmcgirr [at] gmail [dot] com.
Looking forward to the future, during Alumni Council weekend we came up with the idea of having an "Oberlin Cares Day" on April 17, 2010. This happens to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. We thought it would be incredible if Obies across the nation all performed some sort of service project in their area on the same date. Whether it's sorting food at an area food bank, cleaning up a bike path or working in a community garden, Oberlin Cares Day will bring alumni, students and friends together, offering a chance to connect with each other while completing an important service project and giving back to the local community. What a way to take our celebrated Oberlin service spirit to the streets! Ideally, we would like to be able to grow this event each year.
But to achieve this goal, I need your help. Please contact me by e-mail (kmcgirr [at] gmail [dot] com) if you would like to help plan this event, so we can come up with great ideas and then implement them. Oberlin Cares Day is a fantastic idea, and I'm incredibly excited by it. I can't wait to work together with you!
